DeMuth's GLAZE Silo Wall Conditioner is an acrylic polymer, specially
formulated for the protection of silo walls. It prevents the deterioration
of concrete by blocking the penetration of acidic silage juices. GLAZE is
available in both water-based and solvent-based formulae. Easy to apply
using either a whitewash brush or an airless spray system.
GLAZE restores hardness to softened concrete walls and prevents further
acid attacks. For years, GLAZE has been the simple, low-cost solution to
the maintenance problems of silo manufacturers and their customers. |

Silage Acids
Concrete tower silos, whether precast stave or cast-in-place, are
subject to the ravages of silage acids. When these acids come into contact
with the concrete walls they react with the cement matrix that binds the
aggregates together. The result is a decrease in strength of the walls.
These acids also attack metals such as silo hoops or reinforcing rods,
silo hardware, etc.
Farmers must therefore take measures to guard against silo
deterioration:
- Buy only a quality silo (walls made from high quality concrete);
- Protect the silo walls by preventing silage acids from coming into
contact with the concrete by applying an acid resistant coating such as
GLAZE;
- Harvest crops at a moisture content such that seepage will not
occur;
- Remove all silage yearly to allow the inner silo wall surface to dry
out before fillings and the re-application of the acid resistant
coating.
Practice safe farming – don’t ignore your silos!
